Practical Magic: How can you find ways to make the things you "have" to do or "need" to do a little more magical? When we have a lot on our plate in the earth realm, we can find ourselves feeling sad about being deprived of time with spirit. Here are a few ways spirit suggests to me now. Try these if they feel right and I encourage you to get creative!!
Coffee Magic
My friend Branché inspires me with her integration of "plant play" (herbal medicine) into her morning coffee routine. Two of my favorite ways to enjoy my coffee were directly inspired by Branché! Adding a little honey to my coffee brings a warm sweetness to my day. It tastes like the summer sun in my cup, and takes off much of the "edge" of caffeine experience.
Rose brings a romantic type of affection to my morning cup. It's beautifully perfumy and makes me feel like Venus. Like I love myself fully as I have woken up that day. Sprinkling cinnamon into your coffee or tea is an excellent way to call in luck, abundance and wealth. I like to stir it toward me to call it in to me.
What kind of energy would you like to call into yourself first thing in the morning? Can you sprinkle that into your coffee? I keep my jar of honey on the altar where it gets a good amount of sunlight every day. I pray over it from time to time. I purchased it with cash that I blessed from the elder across the street who has been beekeeping in our neighborhood for decades. These little tiny details are what bring the magic to the experience. It doesn't have to be fancy. This honey is neighborhood stuff that cost be a couple dollars that I keep in a sacred space. It could be 99 cent store honey that you keep on your altar - it's really all about the intention and the consistency.
If you don't drink coffee, what about making yourself a cup of tea every morning?
Meditation in Motion
I find that spirit speaks loudly to me when I am tending to my home - washing the dishes, picking up around the house, folding the towels. It's like the one thing I don't want to do at all (especially during covid omg i'm always cleaning), but they reward me by offering me downloads during that time. But only if I let myself like zone out into the task.
Get into a like...chores trance. It doesn't have to be chores - maybe there is a "work" task you can zone out doing. Or tending to your altar space - cleaning it, preparing for ritual, etc. Whatever the task is, it needs to be something that doesn't require much conscious focus. Turn off the TV and podcasts.
Try to avoid music that is distracting. Put on some crystal sound bowls or any other musics or ambient sounds. Put your phone up somewhere for 60 whole minutes. Notice the way spirit speaks to you.
Sweeping
If you are sweeping up your house bc you need to, try saying a prayer or spell for cleansing the space as you do it. Repeat the spell to yourself over and over again until your done sweeping. Do a final ritual sweep out of the front door when your done, to scoot all of the spiritual stuff that doesn't belong in your home out the door.
Daily Greetings
Say hello to your altar in the morning and goodnight before bed. If that's all you have time or energy for, it's something and that's great. This small habit can help you build dedication and consistency in your practice.
Cruising Together
Invite your spirits on your drive. Whether it's a long, new drive or your regular commute, invite your benevolent spirits to sit shotgun. Talk to them as you move along on your journey. Play music for them. Put your Spotify on shuffle and invite them to communicate to you through the music.
