Slow Season
When I first became a full time Professional Magical Person in 2018, I was so excited for the opportunity to have more time with my family. While I was working full-time in the apparel industry, my kiddos were the first ones dropped at school each day, and often the last kids picked up jusssst as the clock struck 6pm.
I missed school performances, was barely scraping up enough energy to do dinner/bath/bed each night, my partner and I worked opposite schedules and rarely saw each other, and I often had to weigh the risk of losing my job vs picking a sick child up from school. It was…awful.
But working for my spirits, working for myself, presented a new life to me. The opportunity to get to enjoy my family. To be present and engaged rather than on exhausted autopilot, always feeling shitty about my parenting, my partnership, my work performance.
Of course, capitalist standards of productivity have taken a long time to unlearn. In the first few years of Mother of Mystics (known back then as Hija del Sol!), I was doing entirely too much lol. Don’t get me wrong - I did some incredible work!! Those years were formative for me as a practitioner. I gained clearer understanding of who I was in service to, how I was in service to my community, and experienced a huge expansion of my spiritual abilities.
As the way spirits moved through me changed, I learned that I couldn’t keep seeing 4 clients a day, 5 days a week.
Trance mediumship, possession, though exhilarating and beautiful, demanded more of me energetically. More commitment to my spirits, my devotions, my altars. More preparation, more aftercare. More but well worth the experience and support my clients received in their sessions.
Over the past two years, I’ve been vastly reducing the number of clients I see each month. I’ve been adjusting my focus on creating the most enriching experience possible for my Moonshadows members, Into the Veil students, and now, my Oracle Activation students. Through these channels, I am able to honor the energetic investment required of the spiritual workings I provide, and be of service to more people that I would be able to exclusively through 1:1s.
Things have been quiet here over the last few weeks, as I’ve been taking the time to be fully present with my kiddos while they are on winter break. When I was in the conventional workforce, we called this time of year “the slow season” - and it was a time we all dreaded. The pressures and performance expectations did not change, despite the awareness that every year, this time just didn’t produce the same numbers as the rest. It was so stressful. But now? Now the slow season is a treat. An opportunity to rest, to cuddle, to read, to play Mario Kart together. What a blessing, indeed.
With all that said, I do want to share that there are three spots left for this year’s Oracle Activation cohort.

This type of mediumship quite literally changed my life. I am looking forward to opening the door to this type of spirit communication with you. <3
