Listening to the Seventh Direction

A little over a week ago, I share that the first tenant of praxis covered in Back to Basics is devotion, and how in order to understand devotion, we must understand to who or what we are accountable to.

One of the first pillars of accountability we explore in B2B is accountability to the self.

Taking into consideration what we know, what we've learned, what we've unlearned, reflecting on how our actions align with these things.

Taking care of our bodies needs as best we are able. Though most of the ✨things✨ we need to care for our bodies - food, water, healthcare, rest, etc - should not be a privilege, under capitalism and imperialism, our basic human needs are reclassified as luxuries. If we are fortunate enough to access these resources, what is our relationship to them? Are we engaging with them to care for ourselves the way we need to? Are we honoring our bodies' calls for sustenance, hydration, sleep, relaxation, holistic care, spiritual care, medical care?

It's been a little over a week since I shared about Back to Basics, because my body was telling me to rest.

The internalized capitalism in me wanted to keep pushing, keep writing, keep sharing. But my brain, body, and spirit all teamed up to tell me to slow the heck down. To turn off the screens. To sleep. To day dream. I have not always had the privilege of accessing time for rest outside of the few hours of sleep I get after I tuck my kiddos in. Now that, with the support of my spirits, I've created a life where there is room for it, it can be difficult to commune with the resource even when asks to be engaged with.

This time around, I listened. I listened to the signals my self, the seventh direction, was sharing with me. I didn't push myself to keep doing - a pattern that has too often resulted in resentments, burn out, frustration, disenchantment, and sometimes even a bonus lil depression spiral or mania for funzieeees.

Our relationships to our body - the first altar - serves as a blueprint for our relationship to the world around us. If we extract resource - work, ideas, etc - from an already depleted body, what does that say about how we engage with the external?

The tenants of back to basics aren't just a practice - they are a praxis - “a form of conscious, self-aware action” as Aristotle once put it.

They are ideas partnered with action - action that we feel empowered and capable of taking, even in a world full of systems that work so hard to strip us of our agency.

Back to Basics is a new, self-paced offering for discovering your Earth-Honoring Spiritual Praxis. In Back to Basics, students receive the tools, technique, and experiential wisdom for returning to an Earth-Honoring Spiritual Path.

You can learn more about the program and sign up for early enrollment discounts here. This is the last week to access early bird discount pricing before we officially open enrollment.

"In the best version of this world, there will always be work to do, to take care of ourselves, one another, and our planet.

The Good Spirits show us the work that sparks our soul. The ways to show up for ourselves, our communities, and our planet that bring us fulfillment, pleasure, joy, rest, and access to the resources we need to thrive."
