We Do What We Do to Get By 🌹

A common occurance I've noticed as a teacher and practitioner is the surprise and frustration that can come when their Good Spirits can't (or don't or won't) present a an action plan that takes them directly into their dream thing [life/job/relationship/insert your unique dream thing here].

We crave point A to point B, a straight line from what we don't prefer to what we truly desire and deserve. We want out of where we are and in to where we want to be, as quickly as possible. I get it!! I mean, I want that too, for me, for you, for all of us!!

I think it’s fair to say that just about everyone (who doesn’t have the luxury of access to generational wealth) will have to do things we don’t want to do or aren’t ideal in order to survive. We will work a job (or many jobs) that aren’t fulfilling. We will make sacrifices that we don’t want (or shouldn’t have to) make. This isn’t your guides or spirits punishing you. It’s the reality of living in late stage capitalism.

Our guides aren’t Cinderella’s fairy godmother. They can’t bippidy boppidy us out of less than desirable circumstances. They ✨can✨ help us to be more aware of, and have the capacity and courage to step into, opportunities that will bring us closer to what it is we are longing for.

For the most part, the changes we seek do not happen overnight. The Oak does not tower over the forest overnight. Sustainable change is slow and steady - something that feels counterintuitive in an Amazon Prime, viral TikTok world. Sustainable change - the kind we can KEEP - comes through a series of choices, big and small, that over time bring us closer to our desires.

These choices require our ✨participation✨. There is always labor required on our part. There is always effort required on our part. While the Good Spirits can offer us insight, clues, suggestions, ask us important questions, we are the ones who must choose to show up and take action.

This isn’t always easy. This isn’t always fun. Sometimes we want a cut and clear answer or direction and there just isn’t one. Sometimes the direction is clear but we don’t wanna do it. That doesn’t make you a bad person or lazy (I don’t like that word tbh). It’s the nature of being human and it’s okay to experience some resistance or confusion.

This world is set up to make life as difficult as possible, specifically for ppl who aren’t a part of the ruling class, even more so depending on the intersections of your marginalizations. There are hoops we have to jump thru. It’s not fair!! But it is the reality in front of us atm. Our guides can’t make centuries old systems of oppression disappear. Would be cool, tho!! They can show us the back doors, ally ways, portals, and loop holes that we can step through to bring more comfort and ease into our lives. But we gotta the be ones to take the steps!

Sometimes their suggestions feel counterintuitive. β€œWhat do you mean I should take another day job in this industry I don’t like?” β€œWhat do you mean I shouldn’t quit and start my business yet?” The more we commune with our good spirits, the more we learn to trust them even when their guidance seems kinda weird!

Sometimes we are just too tired. Too burnt out by the demands of survival. And that’s okay too. ❀️❀️ Pray for patience, and do what you can to take care of your body, the first altar; do what you can to take care your heart, your spirit, your mind. Sometimes we gotta take care of the internal before we can begin the process of changing the external.

Sometimes we come a reader, healer, or practitioner because we need support interpreting the messages the spirits are offering us.

A Good Practitioner will help you understand and unpack the insights, clues, suggestions, and questions that your Good Spirits offer you. They will help you see where you have agency to exercise, to notice the crossroads and give you insight on where the different directions may take you. A Good Practitioner cannot walk the road for you though, my love.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again, The Answer is in The Experience.

Take some inspiration from The Fool, and take a chance on those little steps on a path unknown that lead you to your destiny.
