Spiritual Toolkit
How are you feeling? Like, really, how are you feeling?
Who are you talking to about how you are feeling? A therapist is great, a trusted friend (who has expressed having the capacity to hold space) is great - but how do you support yourself in between? In the moments alone?
I don't believe in being alone anymore. It's literally impossible to be once you open yourself up to living in communion with the spirits.
In the Spring and Summer, much of communion with spirit(s)/Spirit/Divinity exists in the realm of The Garden Planet. The Spirits of the Trees. The Birds. The Squirrels. The Sun. The Plants. The Land. Within each of these, the many variations, each with their unique qualities, personalities, energies.
As the Wheel of the Year arrives at the shift from Summer to Fall (it's July 15th-August in Los Angeles for me, but it varies based on the land you are in communion with…) the Spirits of the Place gradually become louder. Spirits of the Home, of the Thresholds, of Front Steps, of the Mailbox, of the Crossroads, and on and on…all the places we move through.
Then we arrive at this time of year: October, halfway to Halloween. I feel the Spirits of the Wind carrying new spirits in, clearing paths for them to walk. Though I am always conscious of this “overlay” of the Spirit realm existing in my Awake World, this time of year I see them together. I haven't used Photoshop in many years, but I remember this eyeball icon that would allow you to make layers visible or invisible. It's like Spring and Summer the Spirit Realm layer is invisible and now it's as though someone switched it “on” to visible. What I ordinarily imagine and believe is tangible and impossible to deny when the Wheel moves us to this time of the year.
They tend to express their hunger this time of year, too. Through our own cravings, we can discover what it is the benevolent spirits desire to be fed.
I do think it's important when leaving offerings on the altar this time of year, announce who they are for before setting down, even if it's simply “my benevolent, wise, well, ascended ancestors and spirits." They appreciate the recognition, and it helps build your relationship to them.
It also helps you to feel better to talk to them in those moments when you feel alone. Though at first you may feel silly or awkward speaking out loud to your spirits, I promise they hear you, even if you can't hear them.
What do you carry in your spiritual connection toolkit? The aids that help you to communion and converse with your spirits and guides? Chances are that you've already started building this kit, whether you realize it or not! Some things your kit may contain:
Tarot cards, oracle cards
Other divination tools
A magic wand
Reciting prayers, incantations, poems that are supportive and resonant for you
A crystal that is special or sentimental to you
A journal and your favorite pen
Your go-to tea blend or coffee drink or soup or broth or food for when you need some comfort in a bowl or cup
A walk, hike, run, or drive who's familiarity brings comfort
Sitting outside, spending time outside, whether fully immersed in nature or just taking as much of a break from fluorescent lights and touch screens as possible
A playlist that helps support us through our difficult moments and moods; a playlist that helps us embody who we desire to be in a situation or moment
This list certainly isn't comprehensive, but it meant to serve as a starting place for you to realize what tools you already have access to when you are in need of support. Of course, these may not help for all things, and sometimes we need help from other people, not just the spirits. The spirits can help us find those people, help us find the resources we need to access care beyond their realms of assistance, when we talk to them about what we are going through, when we ask them for help finding the support we need.
I encourage you to take some time today (or this month) to write down with a pen and paper (not a screen or keyboard) what supportive spiritual practices and tools you already have access to. Label this page as your Spiritual Support Toolkit and post it somewhere you can see it, snap a photo and keep it saved in your phone as well.
When you are feeling lost on where to begin processing what you are feeling, what you are moving through, identifying the type of help you desire or need, turn to this list to help you get started.
As we lean further into communion with the spirits, we become more and more sensitive to these shifts. Never alone. Always supported. Ever present in our Faith and Hope.
All my love, Moon Beam. <3
